| about this site [2005-12-26] I'm Jim Sauer. I've had this domain and web site since 1995. More than 10 years now... Wow. The site has evolved and is now a PHP application that reads and writes data from a MySQL database. Send any and all comments about the site to: my email address. I'm particularly interested in any problems you have viewing or using the site, or if you have any suggestions for improving the site. about Jim Sauer I was born in New Jersey. I like to think I got out early enough that no permanent damage was done. I moved to Olean, New York with my family when I was in the second grade. I lived in Olean until I graduated from Olean High School in 1984. While in high school I worked at Quality Markets as a stockboy, cashier and later as part of the night crew. That was a great high school job that helped me develop my work habits early and try my hand at a variety of tasks with a variety of coworkers. After high school I moved to Rochester, New York and attended the University of Rochester. I graduated from there in 1988 with a BA in Mathematics, Computer Science. After college I worked for three years at Microlytics helping create and test linguistic software products like spell checkers and the WordFinder Thesaurus for Macintosh, DOS and Windows. In 1991 I moved to Northern California where I live today. I earned my MBA from the University of California at Berkeley, the Haas School of Business in 1993. I have worked at small and large destop software and video game companies: Go, Light Source, Lexicus, 3DO, Cagent, Adobe and, most recently, for seven years at Intuit. My roles have been, in reverse chronological order, Product Manager, Program Manager, Project Manager and Quality Assurance Manager. In June 2005 I quit my job I so that I could do exactly what I wanted to do. That was one of the best decisions of my life. The articles I've posted to this web site explain some of my thinking around that decision and describe what I've been doing since then. This site gives you an exposure to my wide range of interests: animals, outdoor adventures, environmental issues and, certainly not least of all, creating useful usable software. getting around The "home page" of this site is whatever page contains the latest article. Each article page contains links to other articles and links to two special pages. The special pages are (1) this page, the "about this site" page, and (2) the "site index" page which contains a list of all articles on this site. Articles with pictures also have links to a slide show for that article. The slide show lets you look at larger version of the small pictures in the article. The slide show links take two forms: (1) there's a link at the top of the article page that takes you to the slide show ("go to slide show") ... or you can just click on any of the small images in the article to get to the slide show. Getting around in the slide show should be pretty easy to figure out... and each slide show page has a link back to the article at the top of the page. |
